Gills come up with revised fans offer

Gillingham Football Club have come up with a revised offer for fans that were promised compensation for the 4-3 defeat at Accrington Stanley.

261 travelling fans were promised a refund by Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler after they found themselves 4-1 down at the break before coming back to lose 4-3.

At the time, The Gills boss promised he and his staff along with the players would find a way of compensating fans for the long journey only to see the side capitulate in such an ineffectual manner.

Nearly two weeks later and the club came up with an initial offer to those fans that endured one of the most dire performances of the season by offering cheaper coach travel to the Plymouth game on Saturday March 3rd, however they have now said that they will give £20 discount off coach travel to any remaining away games this season, excluding any play-off matches should The Gills make it.

Anyone that can prove that they went to Accrington, be it by producing a ticket stub, or a receipt for train travel or even a receipt from a service station on the way, will be able to claim a coach ticket to Plymouth or any other away game for £10 instead of the normal price of £30 for adults and just £4 for juniors instead of the usual £24.

Fans have until Wednesday 29th February to take up the offer by visiting the ticket office in Redfearn Avenue with their “evidence”, which doesn’t include taking a copy of the programme, to claim their “discount.”

The new offer should go some way to appeasing fans that were disappointed with the initial deal.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler told the club’s official website:

“At the end of the day it was a gesture I made after the game as I wasn’t happy with our performance and I put myself in the fans position.”

“I spoke to the Chairman about it and we’ve come up with a decision to refund it in this way and that’s it – we move on.”

Meanwhile, Gillingham have announced that Saturday’s game with Hereford United that was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Priestfield, will now be played on Tuesday 28th February with kick off at 7:45pm.
